WELCOME TO THE 2010-2011 SCHOOL YEAR!!!
Monday: August 23
1. We will discuss team and classroom expectations.
2. We will label and turn in our supplies. For English this year each student will need a spiral, pocket folder, and a school planner. Spirals and folders will be kept in the classroom.
3. Homework for Tuesday: bring one or more magazines that can be used for cutting out pictures, etc...
Tuesday: August 24
1. Discuss Learning Modalities/ Left-Right Brain/What Kind of a Student Are You?
2. Classroom Writing: "What Are 3 Things You Want Your Teacher to Know About You?"
3. Collect magazines for a daily grade.
Wednesday: August 25
1. We will make our Writing Portfolios. They will be kept in the classroom until the end of the year when they can be taken home.
2. Share writing assignment and put in writing portfolio.
Thursday: August 26
1. We will discuss Reporter's Formula.
2. We will write in our spirals using the formula.
Friday: August 27
1. Introduce partners using the Reporter's Formula.
2. Students will receive a daily grade for their introductions of each other.
Monday: August 30
1. Design shields. They will displayed in the hall.
2. Complete "Quotation Cards." These will be posted on student lockers.
3. Begin Weekly Spelling. Each student will receive a workbook which will be kept in the classroom. Weekly spelling quizzes will be on Fridays.
Tuesday: August 31
1. Read and discuss "Seventh Grade" from our brand-new literature books. pp. 114-120.
2. Class discussion and writing assignment.
Wednesday: September 1
1. Library Orientation and quiz over library Power point.
2. Check out first library book.
3. Silent Book Log due Wed. Sept. 15. It must be signed and initialed by parents.
Thursday: September 2
1. Cornell Notes on author of The Cay, Theodore Taylor.
2. There will be a quiz over the notes.
Friday, September 3
1. Spelling/Vocabulary Test #1. Also, students received a workbook on Monday, and Lesson 1 is due today for a homework grade. We will have a new lesson each week from now on.
2. Continue with Cornell Notes.
3. Introduce The Cay.
4. Students should be reading at home each evening and filling in their Silent Reading Log.
Monday, Sept. 6
1. Lesson 2 in Spelling/Vocab Workbook. Quiz on Friday.
2. Discuss Cornell Notes on Theodore Taylor.
3. Quiz on Theodore Taylor notes.
4. Begin Cornell Notes on "Novel Notes."
Tuesday, Sept. 7:
1. Continue Cornell Notes from Monday.
2. Make booklets for The Cay. Students will receive an instruction sheet for the booklet today.
Wed., Sept. 8:
1. Quiz on Novel Notes.
2. Begin Chapter 1 of The Cay.
Thurs., Sept. 9:
1. Continue reading The Cay.
2. Complete chapters we have read in our booklets.
Friday, Sept. 10:
1. Spelling/Vocab Lesson 2 due and quiz.
2. Read library books.
